Our design approach was rooted in respect – preserving the soul of the house while enhancing it with carefully chosen materials and a spatial layout that opens the building to light, water, and life. The interiors are enriched with Nordic materials and craftsmanship, creating contrasts between rustic textures and warm, tactile textiles. Every detail reflects the story of the building – from ceramic vessels filled with grain to carefully curated pieces of Danish design, both classic and contemporary.
With 2,000 m² of redesigned ground floor, Admiral now offers new possibilities for gathering, dining, and relaxing. At the water’s edge, the new restaurant pavilion – inspired by Nordic boathouse typologies – gives Restaurant Aye Aye one of the city’s most breathtaking locations.
Originally built in the late 1700s as a grain warehouse, its long, layered history and unique waterfront location make it one of Copenhagen’s most iconic buildings. The recent transformation has revealed its authentic character by peeling away decades of unnecessary additions, allowing the original brick walls, timber beams, and vaulted ceilings to breathe once again.
Outdoor spaces have been reimagined to invite spontaneous encounters, reactivating the lively harbour atmosphere that once defined this place.
